As your farmer, I am committed to helping to build our community, providing fresh and healthy food to you and being a responsible steward of the farmland and our ecosystem. The CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model is an innovative way for you to receive fresh vegetables each week and be a part of the Deri Farm community. Healthy vegetables come from healthy soil. Using organic farming methods, I am not just restoring the nutrients in the soil, but improving its quality for our future.

CSA Share 2014 – Week 13

I’m a week late in getting the share for week 13 posted, but better late than never!  Also, I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the share, but the vegetables are nothing new from prior weeks.  So, here is at least a listing/value of the share contents for the week 13 share (September 9, 2014):

  • Take one cabbage, add celery or fennel, then add a mixture of the following for a total of 10 pounds: potatoes, onions, cucumbers, summer squash – 10 pounds @ average of $2 per pound  - $20
  • Peppers (sweet, green, and hot) and Eggplant – 2 pounds @ $3.50 per pound – $7
  • Garlic – choose 2 @ ~ $1.25 – $2.50
  • Tomatoes (heirloom, cherry, slicers, paste) – 7 pounds @ $3 per pound – $21

This was the last week of any squash and cucumbers.  A few more make squeak their way in, but almost all of the plants are dead and gone.  The number of items doesn’t seem like a lot because so many were wrapped up in the “full plate” choice.  I think most shareholders like being able to have a little more choice.

The total share value for week 13 is $50.50.  The total for the season is $451.25.
